30-Second Quick Take
A 20-foot troll built from salvaged materials that turns an old industrial setting into an unexpected local art discovery.
Why We Tried It
We went looking for a new experience to share with the Quick Take Culture community. Big Rusty delivered a memorable reminder that you don’t have to travel far to discover something unexpected.
The Experience
Recycled materials, an old industrial setting, and a little imagination come together at this outdoor sculpture. Big Rusty was created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo from salvaged materials as part of his 2023 Way of the Bird King U.S. project.
What Stood Out
The scale was the biggest surprise. Big Rusty is even more impressive in person, and the visitor artwork covering the surrounding walls adds another layer to the experience.
